Days of Our Knights!

Sir Knights Wally and Rudy doing what they do best at St. Anne's Food Pantry!

St. Anne's Food Bank

The Knights of Columbus Council #2329 substantially oversees the operations of the Saint Anne’s Food Pantry in Porterville, Ca.  The food pantry is a ministry of Saint Anne’s Parish established to serve the communities of Porterville and Springville by feeding the hungry, regardless of their religious affiliation.  It accomplishes the objective by providing supplemental grocery food commodities to individuals and families in need of emergency food assistance.  Distribution of food is conducted each Wednesday and Thursday morning.

During the 12 month period ending June 30, 2013, 30 members of Council #2329 volunteered 4,000 hours assisting 500 households per month through Saint Anne’s Food Pantry.  More than 2,000 additional volunteer hours are provided by other caring members of the community, most notably members of Catholic Daughters #1521.  The monetary requirements of the food pantry are mostly met by gracious contributions made by members of Saint Anne’s Parish.

Activities of the food pantry are ongoing 7 days a week in order to be prepared for the twice weekly food distribution.  All members of Knights Council #2329 are encouraged to examine their skills and abilities with a goal of committing their time and effort to further enhance the food pantry ministry.  Substantial assistance can be provided by volunteering an hour or two a week or a four hour block of time once or more a month.  Skill set opportunities during morning, evening, or weekend hours include: greeting and interpretation; computer database and spreadsheet input; sorting and shelving; loading and delivery of commodities with a pickup; and minor building maintenance.

Knights are sincerely thanked for their personal financial support, but are also encouraged to examine their capabilities to further become involved with the ministry of feeding the hungry.  To discuss how you might get involved come by the food pantry at 271 S. Wallace on Wednesday or Thursday morning,  call George Martinez at Saint Anne’s Parish on 784-2800, or call SK Jim Perrine on 783-3035.

Catholic Daughters Regina Caeli Court Donate to Pantry Project

The local Court of Catholic Daughters has donated a check to St. Anne's Food Pantry for the remodeling and updating of the soon-to-be refrigeration room.  The Court Regent Libby Espejo along with Rosie Gonzales are pictured at the right handing over the donation check to Director/CEO Sir Jingle Jim Perrine while Br. Steve Anastasoff looks on.  As of Wednesday March 6, it appears that enough funds have been collected to begin the project.  Although the construction of the refrigeration room is a major step forward there are many other updates are still in the planning stages such as updating and modernization of bathroom facilities and installation of a new gas line.

L. B. Hill Students Volunteer

Along with local Knights and Catholic Daughters running the "show" are various others volunteers such as students from L. B. Hill Learning Center.  The Hill students typically work at the Pantry every Wednesday and Thursday.  Some of the major assistance the student provide is repackaging bulk commodities into smaller portions for distribution to clients.

Thanks Frank!  There is always something to do at St. Anne's Food Pantry.
